Welcome to Cornhill Kindergarten

Welcome to Cornhill Kindergarten. We are registered with OFSTED for children from the ageof birth to 8 yearsand undergo regular inspections by Ofsted. Our most recent inspection was in April 2013 and we received an ‘OUTSTANDING’ outcome for our provision and outstanding in all areas. The Kindergarten was opened 20 years ago, with the current three Directors taking ownership in 2004. Alex Westrup (NNEB), Sacha Seabrook (BaHons and EYP), and Zoe Henderson (Early Years Foundation Degree).

Zoe Henderson works closely with the Nursery Manager Emma Kilcourse (Early Years Foundation Degree) who is responsible for the day to day care, and together with her team pride themselves on consistently maintaining a high standard of childcare with the emphasis on education., overseeing the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, working throughout the Nursery. The family owned company also own another nursery in Bolton, Highview Kindergarten Ltd that they have operated since 2002. The Nursery is set in two large attractive houses, which have been suitably adapted to accommodate young children, and a very extensive outdoor provision (this really has to be seen to be appreciated) Cornhill Kindergarten occupies a pleasant and quiet location in Davyhulme in close proximity to St Mary’s Primary School, near to the Trafford Centre and the motorway system.

We aim to provide a happy and secure environment for your child, where your child will be cared for and educated during his/her most formative years. We pride ourselves on having a professional team of qualified and very experienced nursery staff , many of them parents themselves. Ofsted state that our ‘Staff have excellent knowledge of how children learn and provide a rich, varied and imaginative educational programme, with precise assessment and planning for individual children which ensures they make excellent progress.’

The activities in the kindergarten are all based on the belief that children learn and develop through play. The older children enjoy visits from our yoga teacher, and weekly swimming lessons are also available for the over threes. Ofsted commented that ‘Teaching techniques are consistently strong across the setting and successfully reflect children’s interests’ and ‘Children’s emotional well-being is extremely well supported. They share very positive relationships with highly skilled staff who are caring and sensitive to each child’s individual needs’. We strongly recommend that you make an appointment to visit the Nursery as soon as possible, as places do get booked up well in advance. If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

All staff are Paediatric first aid qualified and Food Safety trained.

All staff are trained to the highest level of Safeguarding.

We have a very much ‘open door’ policy for parents whereby there is always a member of management on the premises for you to discuss any issues you may need assistance or advice with.

We issue a quarterly newsletter for parents with lots of information on events past and future, staff articles and information, activities, baking etc.

We have a parent information screen in the hall with updated information, as well as a parent information board which has up to date articles and helpful tips, and advice on childcare.

We encourage parents to use email to discuss fees and extra sessions etc so that home time can be spent focussing on your child and his/her needs and what they have been doing throughout the day.

The nursery has a CCTV monitoring system in use in all the nursery rooms and garden.

We like to take the different age groups out for walks as often as possible and to the nearby nature reserve throughout the year. Visiting the library and local pet shops also feature in our curriculum.

Children are encouraged as a group to brush their teeth, after lunch as part of their daily activity.

We like to display photographs of the children during their daily activities and Nursery events for parents to see what they have been doing. A digital photo frame and photo album are available in the entrance hall for parents to enjoy.

We like to organise ‘parents evenings’ for parents to take time to look in each Nursery room at the equipment and activities we have, talk to the team and see the work the children have been and will be doing, as well as discuss their own child’s development.
